Day #130: GYM!

Pretend my mirror isn't dirty...thanks!
I finally did it. I went to the gym. To work-out this time and NOT to cancel my membership. I've only been telling myself that I would go back for 2 months now.

Better late then never!!

Today's Gym Playlist:
Feel Again - OneRepublic
Too Close - Alex Clare
Let Me Love You - Ne-Yo
One More Night - Maroon 5
Footloose - Blake Shelton
Fake ID - Big & Rich (feat Gretchen Wilson)
Don't Wake Me Up - Chris Brown

I'm starting slow, simply because I know myself well enough to know that if I push too hard I will quit before I see any results. I walked on the treadmill for 30 minutes today. I am off tomorrow and Wednesday so I plan on hitting the gym up those days too.

Here's some work-out tips that I have picked up along the way:

1. Be Consistent
Even if you only walk on the treadmill for 20 minutes, the most important part is that you do it consistently. Everyday or every other day, try to do it at least 3-5 times a week.

2. Stretch before and after your work-outs
I used to skip this part. I found that after stretching I was able to work out longer. However, here is such a thing as TOO much stretching. You can pull muscles if you overstretch. I do slow, mild stretches for 10 minutes before and after my work-outs.

3. Eat before you go the gym
Sounds counter-productive, but eating a light snack prior to working out can actually boost your metabolism. Now this isn't something EVERYONE has to do. If you maintain a healthy diet, the carbs your body stores will be adequate. Some people feel sick if they eat before a work-out. I find that if I eat a granola bar or something 30 minutes before I go to the gym I feel better.

4. Drink lots of water!
This applies to everyday life but you should still maintain hydration while working out. Especially in the summer or warm climates.

Any tips you want to share with me??

  1. Good for you girl! I noticed my big ass in the mirror the other day and thought I better start doing something about it, so thanks for the tips. We're in this together!

  2. Yay, good job girl! I am slowly trying to get back on the horse and worked out for a bit today for the first time in who remembers when! You have great advice here, and I think it is all key to sticking with a life change!

My tip would be find the things you like, and mix it up! That definitely helps with the boredom. Not that that's always easy in Michigan - I'd work out a lot more if it was summer all the time! :)

  4. Stretch stretch stretch! I stretch before, after, AND at night. Do you do any yoga? Yoga is a great workout and does increase flexibility.
