I figured it is probably time for an update on my friend, Sarah. If you are new to the blog, you can read about her situation here. We recently threw her a benefit and were able to raise around $4500 to help her and her family through this difficult time. Unfortunately, it might not have been enough.
Sarah has undergone 2 chemotherapy treatments. She did well after the first, getting by with only some muscle aches and pains. She lost quite a bit of hair, but handled that like a champ (read about that here). After the second chemo treatment, she had more muscle aches but still managed to make it to the benefit. A few days later however, she started having severe abdominal pain and came into the ER. She was admitted and she has been in the hospital for the past 2 weeks.
She has a small bowel ileus (obstruction) and hasn't been able to eat hardly any solid foods for 2 weeks. She became neutropenic (her immune system was severely depressed due to chemo, making a simple infection dangerous) and was confined to her room. She has a cyst on her ovary which has gotten large. Her cancer labs have gone up. She hasn't been able to see her kids much because she has been in the hospital. It doesn't look like she will be out soon, which has post-poned her treatments by a few weeks.
Unfortunately, with the delay in treatment, she will be off work for even longer. And the money we raised might not last, even with the strictest budget. I am placing a Paypal donation widget on my sidebar and in this post for those who would like to donate. Please consider helping my friend and her family. If you would like to send a gift directly through Paypal, her accounts e-mail address is: email@example.com.
